WAVE is partnering with Manufacturing Skills Australia to hold its national conference on 8 April in Melbourne. The conference is entitled 'Leaders, teachers, learners, leavers: Women in the Australian VET market'. We have a wide range of speakers, including those who will speak on changes in the VET sector and their impact on women, and others pursuing issues around VET/industry links. Speakers include: Minister Fiona Richardson - Victorian Minister for Women Miriam Silva - TAFE SA Board Susan Hopgood - President Education International Erica Smith - Federation University This conference is important at a time in our history when equity is rarely on the agenda, yet the issues around education and increasing the number of women in the workforce have never been so important for our country. WAVE Annual General Meeting WAVE will hold its AGM by teleconference/online on Thursday 12 September at 3.30 pm (AEST). The AGM will deal with nominations for positions on the Executive, the Annual Report and the Financial Report. These will then be put on the website. There will be a brief period at the finalisation of the AGM for other business. If you want to participate, please contact wave@wave.org.au so that we can let you know of arrangements. If you are interested in nominating for a position, then a nomination form should be sent to terri.quinlan@det.nsw.edu.au by close of business 10 September. You need to be a paid-up member of WAVE to hold a position on the Executive. Nomination forms are available from the National Convenor – linda@wave.org.au. Nomination forms should be signed by two Subscriber members of WAVE. To be a member not holding an Executive position, just enter your name on the Subscriber List on the front page of the website: www.wave.org.au Nominations are called for the following positions: * National Convenor * Public Officer * National Membership/Treasurer * National Secretary/Publicity Officer * Regional/rural liaison (replacing the position previously allocated for a Pamela’s List representative) * Convenors for States and Territories We also have Executive positions for the Immediate Past National Convenors We have had vacancies in Queensland, WA and Tasmania for a while now and it would be great to have nominations from these states. The role of the state/territory convenor means you are on the WAVE Executive, that you (with help) might be able to hold a couple of events for women...

WAVE women in NSW recently held an event, with Jane Newton the Research Manager for Manufacturing Skills Australia as the speaker. Jane has provided a link to the MSA's women in industry webpage, and some interesting statistics on women in manufacturing. This can be found in the News section.
