2024 Survey Findings

WAVE is a national network of women involved in Vocational Education & Training (VET), adult education and the broad field of work-related education and training. WAVE provides seminars & workshops, contributes to the VET and adult education body of knowledge, policy advocacy and advice, as well as networking on an international, national, and state basis.

The WAVE 2024 annual survey gathered insights from its members and followers regarding their engagement with the organisation and their perspectives on its activities and focus areas. The survey revealed that 43% of respondents first heard about WAVE either through social media or a colleague, with LinkedIn being the primary platform used by those who discovered WAVE via social channels (75%).

WAVE’s mission resonated strongly with its audience, with 100% of respondents indicating that this was a primary factor in their decision to engage with the network. Additionally, 72% were drawn by the networking opportunities WAVE provides. In terms of current engagement, 72% of respondents subscribe to newsletters or updates, while 57% participate in events or webinars and follow WAVE on social media. A smaller portion, 29%, actively contribute to policy and advocacy work.

Respondents were generally satisfied with WAVE’s offerings, with 43% expressing strong satisfaction, while the rest were either neutral (43%) or somewhat satisfied (14%). Key topics that members are passionate about include access to quality education and systemic changes in education policy, both of which garnered 100% support. Other important issues include addressing gender bias in the curriculum (86%) and training educators on gender equality (72%).

Regarding WAVE’s focus areas, 72% of respondents felt that the current balance is appropriate, though a small percentage had ideas for potential changes but did not specify them. Communication preferences showed a clear preference for emailed newsletters (86%), followed by social media updates (57%).

When asked about WAVE’s events and workshops, 57% of respondents had attended an event and provided positive feedback, appreciating the relevance of the issues discussed and suggesting that broader participation would be beneficial. Finally, 57% of respondents were very likely to recommend WAVE to others, highlighting the value of WAVE’s work in advocating for women in the VET and adult education sectors.

Membership data indicated that 71% of respondents are currently WAVE members, with no interest expressed in membership from those who were not already members.
